Fast-forward to this season, and the Pats, for only the second time in eleven years, will be missing from the regional playoffs.

Blue Ridge basketball beat UNC commitment Ed Davis and Benedictine over the weekend. Photo: Deb Newgaard.
ST. GEORGE - Led by UNC committment Ed Davis, the Benedictine boys hoops team strolled into St. George Saturday night sporting a slick 19-3 overall record and No. 2 state ranking.
Blue Ridge and Benedictine first met on last December 11, and Davis, a prized ACC recruit, eventually landed by Head Coach Roy Williams and UNC, poured in 20 points as the Barons struggled to find consistency on offense in an easy 60-44 Benedictine win.

With Kevin Leatherwood out of the lineup with an ankle injury, Charlottesville High lost its opening two games of the JD regular season.

I think it’s safe to say Head Coach Kareem Martin would have preferred a better showing than fourth place in the Holiday Classic. The Monticello boys basketball team struggled with turnovers, taking care of the basketball and had a difficult time with entry pass from guard to big man in the post.
There is a silver lining, however.
All three aspects are correctable, and it looks as if Martin and his staff have found a quick solution.

It’s hard to put into words what Kevin Leatherwood means to the Charlottesville boys basketball team.
Lets face it — Leatherwood can guard five positions and play five on the other end. He’s also added a new dimension to his game, showing that he can initiate Mitch Minor’s offense with creativity and, most importantly, efficiency.
It all makes up Leatherwood the player, but Leatherwood the leader could mean even more.
