Title IX continues to push female athletics into the forefront

2007 WinS banquet honorees

On June 4th, 2007, the Women in Sports organization (WinS) held their annual banquet at St. Anne’s-Belfield’s Convocation Center.

Local news anchor (WCAV-TV) Beth Duffy presented athletes from the six area high schools who were nominated in eleven sports.

In addition, three scholarships were given to student-athletes for leadership, sportspersonship and academic achievement.

UVA honors Women in Sports

The Women in Sports (WinS) organization was honored at halftime of Virginia's 77-58 victory over Florida State in women's basketball on Feb. 10.


The University of Virginia Women’s Center and the UVA Athletic Department commemorated National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a memorable celebration on Sunday, Feb. 10.

This annual event began in 1986 to honor the talents and accomplishments of the late Flo Hyman, who was a leading activist for equality in women’s sports.
