Much like their male counterparts, the Western Albemarle has a long tradition in stellar distance running.
The former back-to-back Group AA cross country champions a few years ago, the Warriors have also been able to translate that success to the track, most notably a trifecta of state indoor titles from 2003-2005.

Fluvanna County Head Coach Munro Rateau and Charlottesville standout Omari Minor chatted with Publisher Jerry Miller, while INSIDER Jhalil Mosley video interviewed Orange County Head Coach Keyo'de Rogers and OCHS star Quintin Hunter.

For the first time ever, Western Albemarle captured both the boys and girls team titles at Monday’s weather-delayed Jefferson District meet.
Relying on their traditionally strong distance runners and pole vaulters, the Warriors were able to pick up enough points in the other events to narrowly defeat runner-up Louisa County on both sides.

You look at Bobby Bigler, hear he’s going to play college football and immediately realize this must be one of the toughest (you fill in the blank) in Central Virginia today.
At a “listed” 5-foot-10, 180-pounds, Bigler made an impact last season at wide receiver, running back and as a kick returner for the Hornets, who narrowly missed the postseason for a fourth time in as many years.

Behind an all-around performance from standout guard Hines Banks, the Monticello boys basketball team and Head Coach Kareem Martin marched into Orange County and left with a stranglehold on the Jefferson District.

Fork Union’s Axel Mostrag set the bar high in 2007 - really high.
With the Commonwealth’s fastest 1600 meter (4:14.65), 1000 meter (2:26.11) and 800 meter (1:51.63) times, Mostrag marched through the indoor season undefeated, capping his unblemished year with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the 800 meters at the indoor national meet.
