INSIDE CVa Baseball: JD Tourney

Fluvanna County baseball

What a great night of high school baseball!!!

(CVaSports.com INSIDER Flucos1 gives his insight on the Jefferson District Tournament baseball semifinals. Excellent insight here.)

The first game of the evening featured a pitchers duel between Kyle Via of Fluvanna County and Sam Riedesel of Western Albemarle.

Via pitched 6 innings giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit and striking out 7.

With the Flucos leading 3-0, Via started the bottom of the 7th with a walk, and was replaced on the mound by Ryan Foster. Pinch-hitter Nick Pegan hit an RBI double and then Foster promptly retired the Warriors giving Fluvanna a 3-1 victory.

Riedesel threw a good game going 6.2 innings and allowing 0 earned runs while giving up 3 hits.

Via got his 6th win of the year, while Foster picked up another save in his closer role.

Riedesel took the hard luck loss.
.....The nightcap brought Gunnar Carroll to the mound for Louisa County and DJ Brown for Orange County.

Carroll struggled a little in the 1st ining but settled down and went the distance for the Lions.

Brown started strong but once Louisa settled in at the plate they hit the ball hard, chasing Brown from the game. He was replaced by Derek Justice, who finished out for the Hornets and pitched well but the damage was done.

Carroll got his ninth win on the season as Louisa prevailed, 5-3. Brown took the loss. I am sorry that I do not have more names to put in for Louisa and Orange because both team had players that deserve to be recognized.

JEFFERSON DISTRICT FINALS

Junior Varsity Game: - On Thursday night, the Fluvanna JV team will take the field as the #1 seed in the JV championship facing Louisa's JV squad, the two-seed.

This game will take place at Louisa County High School with a scheduled start time of 5:00 p.m.

(Look for a possible change in time since this is exam week for the Flucos and the underclassmen take their exams on Thursday and Friday).

Varsity Game: Louisa will take their #1 seed into Thursday night's game and host Fluvanna (#3). This game currently has a start time of 7:30pm.

Both Louisa and Fluvanna will advance to the Region II Baseball Tournament.

.......

Thursday night should be another great night of high school baseball. Come on out and catch the games and cheer on these young men from both schools who are playing with everything they've got.

Congratulations to Louisa and Fluvanna for a successful year at all levels of their respective baseball programs!
