INSIDE CVa Baseball: JD finals

Louisa County baseball

The Jefferson District baseball championship brought about another close high school game, albeit not as pretty as the semi-final games. Louisa County and Fluvanna County both hit the ball well and the pitchers also did good work.

However, you can count on both teams working on their fielding in practice today.

(CVaSports.com INSIDER Flucos1 gives his insight on the Jefferson District Tournament baseball championship. Very strong Louisa County and Fluvanna County insight here.)

Tyler Brookman started on the mound for Louisa County and he pitched through the 4th inning. Brookman gave up 5 runs, though only 2 were earned as he allowed 7 hits and struck out 2 batters.

Peter Culver then took the hill for the 5th and 6th. Culver held the Flucos in check allowing 0 runs on 0 hits, while striking out 1.

Culver recorded the win.

The 7th inning featured Kurt Fleming on the hill, and he struck out 1 batter while allowing 1 hit. Fleming did not give up any runs and earned the save for his efforts.

... Fluvanna County countered with Ryan Foster, who threw three innings. Foster gave up 4 runs but only 2 of those were earned. Foster allowed 5 hits and struck out 4 batters.

Tyler Denby took the mound for the 4th-6th innings. Denby gave up 3 hits while striking out 1 batter. He was touched for 3 runs, none of them were earned. Denby suffered the hard-luck loss.

... Offensively, Louisa was led by Kenny Fleming, who had 2 hits and an RBI. Chris Bell delivered an RBI triple, Reggie Shelton had and RBI single and Miles Rucker had an RBI on a bases loaded walk.

Christian Oliver also had an extra base hit with a double. Tyler Brookman, Dylan Szalankiewicz and Jeff Buckler also logged singles for the Lions.

... Fluvanna County had a multi-hit batter in Justin Edwards, who collected 3 hits on the night. Josh Garrison added 2 RBI to his totals, and Matt Hamm and Ryan Foster each had an RBI single.

Tyler Denby had an extra base hit with a double, and Keith Pillow and Josh Gooch had a single, respectively.

... Defensively, both teams stuggled a bit as Louisa committed 3 errors on the night and Fluvanna committed 5. This assisted in 8 of the 12 total runs that crossed the plate being unearned.

... Louisa County secures the Jefferson District Regular Season and Tournament Championships. This is not the end of the road for either team as both squads will now compete in the Regional Tournament.

Louisa County stands at 18-4 currently and will host James Wood at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 26th.

Fluvanna County is 13-10 headed into Monday evening when they will travel to Potomac Falls. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

... CONGRATULATIONS to both of these teams, and I wish them the best in the Regional Tournament!!!

(I have tried to mention as many players as possible in a positive light. I included all pitchers and the offensive players who contributed multiple-hit games, RBIs, extra-base hits, and/or hits in general. These stats may differ with any other scorebook that was being kept at the field but I can only deliver the statistics from my book. I hope I have not left any deserving player from mention).
