Davison makes SOCA proud

SOUTH FORK - A student at Sutherland Middle, Abby Davison enjoys playing soccer and volleyball, while running track and field in her spare time.

“I do the 100 [meters], 200 and 4X400,” said Davison, a talented defender on SOCA’s U-13 Express.

Brian Kuk, the head coach of the U-13 Express, said he sees tremendous potential in Abby.

“Abby is clearly a player we look to be a leader of the team,” said Kuk, who serves as the technical director at SOCA, a deeply-rooted non-profit that services 5,000-plus families in Central Virginia.

“Her maturity spreads through her team and the club,” Kuk continued. Abby’s older sister, Emily, is a member of SOCA’s U-15 Metro team. “She cares deeply for her club and her teammates."

"That spreads like wildfire.”

On Sunday afternoon, at South Fork Soccer Park, Abby and the Express crushed an out-of-town opponent 8-0. It was an efficient showing of youth sports where players logged minutes at various positions to get better versed in the game.

Abby mostly played defense but finished up top, where she created a couple of solid scoring chances.

“Abby is the model youth player,” SOCA Director of Coaching Dan Rosensweig said. “She’s smart, hardworking, a great teammate and loyal to her club.”

Abby admires U.S. National greats Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach.

“We have the same name,” joked Abby, who said she's excited for high school soccer.
