Chalk Talk with Trevor Knight

Trevor Knight

As you all probably know, Trevor Knight was a former baseball standout for St. Anne’s Belfield two seasons ago.

Now, Knight has transformed into a diamond dandy for the James Madison University baseball program, excelling as a pitcher and a threat at the plate for the Dukes.

Knight said the transition from high school to college baseball takes time but can be made smoothly by well-prepared players.

“The biggest difference between high school and college is the speed of the game. The pitchers throw harder, hitters swing harder and base runners run faster,” Knight said.

“The game of baseball itself is basically the same from high school and college. The skill level of each player is increased in college.”

After sitting out last year with an arm injury, Knight has rebounded as a redshirt freshman.

Knight is currently hitting .356 on the season with one home run and 17 RBI. He has posted seven extra base hits, holds a .479 slugging percentage and a .429 on base percentage.

On the mound, Knight has posted a 6-1 overall record with four saves. In 19 innings pitched, Knight has logged 31 strikeouts.

Opponents are batting a feeble .243 when Knight takes the mound.

As for the rest of the year, Knight hopes to continue with his success but does not know exactly what his roll will be.

He hopes to continue pitching for the Dukes (30-11, 18-5 CAA) but also enjoys his time at the plate.

“I’m not sure what the coaches have in store for me,” he said, “but whatever helps the team I am willing to do.”
