Hedgeman shines in college debut at NSU
By Staff Report

Takeem Hedgeman is up to his old tricks again.
The former Monticello running back made a successful debut on Saturday for Norfolk State, rushing four times for 29 yards in a lopsided 47-7 win over Virginia State at Dick Price Stadium.
The true freshman was inserted into the contest in the opening half and promptly ripped off a 7-yard gain.
The Spartans went right back to the state record holder and moved the chains. After two more carries, Hedgeman fumbled, but a teammate dove onto the loose ball.
Hedgeman entered the game again in the second half and rushed for 12 more yards, but the play was eventually negated by a holding penalty on Norfolk State.
At Monticello last year, Hedgeman set the state record with 51 touchdowns and helped the Mustangs win the Group AA Division 3 title.
Hedgeman finished the season with 2,891 yards rushing and was named an All-State performer.
The Spartans (1-0) will play Saturday at Kentucky at 6 p.m.
