MONTICELLO - On a cool, rainy night, the two contenders for the Jefferson District belt toed-the-tape for a heavyweight bout in Mustang Country. Behind a knockout performance from running back Takeem Hedgeman, the Mustangs pounded Western Albemarle, 39-13, in front of a rain-soaked contingent Friday evening. 
The anchor of a bullish Monticello offensive line, senior Jake Miles (6-3, 250), the Stangs' only captain, has seen his recruiting pick up some speed thanks to an impressive first half of the season. 
Entering the 2007 football season, the Monticello Mustangs seemed to have every piece in place for a successful season, if, and it's a HUGE 'IF,' quarterback Mike Graham could live up to the lofty standards his predecessors set since the birth of Monticello High.
