Western track shows balance; CHS, OCHS have starpower

Much like their male counterparts, the Western Albemarle has a long tradition in stellar distance running.

The former back-to-back Group AA cross country champions a few years ago, the Warriors have also been able to translate that success to the track, most notably a trifecta of state indoor titles from 2003-2005.

When Buz Male took over the Albemarle boys cross country program this fall, things weren’t looking all that bright for the long-time Miller School head coach in his return to the big leagues of Group AAA cross country.

If one were to forecast a prediction for the 2007 season, a trip back to the state meet to end a six-year drought seemed rather unlikely for Male and his Patriots.
